Yaking at Conman's
Lake Phelps is a shallow lake with an average depth of 4.5 feet and a maximum depth of 9 feet, the perfect place for Kayaking! Its waters are "gin clear" while most area streams and lakes are murky. Not fed by streams, the lake depends upon rainfall, making it one of the cleanest lakes in North Carolina.

You don't have to be an expert to enjoy paddling with us. Our Kayaks are sit-on top yaks, made by world famous Malibu Kayaks. They offer comfort, stability, storage and safety. Each Kayak is 33 inches wide and has a 19 inch high padded seat. Our fishing Kayaks are Stealth 12's, with a weight capacity of up to 450 pounds!

Whether you are experienced and want to grab a fishing pole to go after largemouth bass or if you just want to paddle around the lake we can accommodate you!
The price seen is per person / kayak. Each Kayak rental comes with a paddle, and personal floatation device. Transportation of the Kayaks on Lake Phelps is a $10 charge (when available). Guided tours are available on weekends, please call or e-mail us for reservations. For your safety, weather does influence the availability of our activities.

Lake Phelps Guided Tours (Call for Reservations)

South Side Tour - 2 Hour Paddle $50
This is the favorite tour by far!! The tour is on the south side of Lake Phelps. It is simple, beautiful and perfect for anyone. Our launching point is from our home base at Conman's store. The bottom is a white sandy bottom, with an average depth of about 3 feet for the whole tour. This one is available at any time on the weekend, but I would highly recommend an early outing for a sunrise paddle!

Paddle to the point - 3 hour Paddle $60
This paddle launches at the Pettigrew state park on the North End of Lake Phelps and goes to big point. The paddle is a great view of cypress trees, leading to a lookout pier. Big Point is an extended white sandy bottom, that has a drop off to it. Perfect for an evening paddle, and those who like a challenge.

State Pier Launch - 3 Hour Paddle $60
This tour is on the west side of the Lake, a popular fishing spot full of vegetation. This tour has average depths of about 3 to 4 feet. The water on this side of the lake is a bit darker as the bottom is a soft mud. It is a great view of bald cypress trees and birds.

*Group rates are available on guided tours
